Profile - Fergus Cook - Your Tour Guide
Fergus has lived in Balmullo, six miles from St Andrews, for ten years. He was a countryside ranger for 29 years in Ayrshire, Edinburgh and Perth and Kinross. Practical conservation, management of sites, environmental education for schools and public guided walks were all part of the job. In 2017 he became a self-employed tour guide specialising in cultural/historical tours of St Andrews town. Now he has put added emphasis on to the wildlife and countryside tours on offer.
“I pride myself in making sure that all my guests see wonderful sights, are astonished by some revelations, are entertained by some curious tales, and are furnished with the basic facts. My favourite thing is to give people a clear sense of the big picture; how the landscape or townscape works and why it looks like that, and then to bring it to life with telling details – what a buzzard or a butterfly is up to, the human drama that shaped a building or the landscape. St Andrews and its countryside are ideal places to meet these aims.”
