St Andrews Countryside: Get Into the Landscape
If you like nature, the landscape around here is busy with birds and animals and full of fascinating plants and trees. If you appreciate the epic: the hills and rivers have a back-story measured in millions of years.
If you are in the mood for current affairs, this is a working landscape. It is prosperous and productive; the crops of the field and the game species in the woods are big business to local landowners.
And then there is the story of the people, past and present. The farms, roads and obscure ruins, even some of the trees, tell us stories about those people who dwelt here in the past. Place names like Pittormie, Seggie and Pusk are clues. There were Celtic tribes, Viking migrants, medieval estates, early industries.
Meanwhile life goes on and this corner of the global village continues to be a work in progress.
